ENDLESS OCEAN

DID YOU KNOW?

In Endless Ocean you’ll explore an underwater paradise teeming with exotic sea-life. But just how much do you know about what lies beneath the surface of the world’s waters? Dive into our list of amazing facts and discover more about some of the aquatic wonders found in the depths of our oceans.

1. There are over 25,000 known species of fish, the smallest being less than 1cm long and the biggest - the Whale Shark - measuring up at more than 40ft in some cases.

2. Although the Whale Shark is the biggest fish in our waters, the largest mammal on the planet is the Blue Whale, which can weigh in at more than 150,000kg and be up to 100ft long. Even the tongue of the Blue Whale is massive - weighing almost 3000kg!

3. Oceans are home to an estimated 80% of all life on earth and the average depth of the world’s oceans is an incredible 12,500ft.

4. The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the biggest single structure in the world made up of living organisms and is so big it can be seen from outer space. It is home to over 1500 species of fish and covers more than 300,000 square kilometres.

5. The lowest known point on earth lies in the Mariana Trench, which plunges almost 40,000ft below the surface of the sea; making it deep enough to accommodate Mount Everest with a few thousand feet to spare!

6. Clocking up speeds of around 110kmph, the Sailfish is the fastest fish in the ocean. Close behind it is the Mako Shark, which can reach speeds of over 70kmph and jump as much as 28ft above the sea’s surface!

7. A massive 361 million square kilometres, or 71%, of the earth’s surface is covered by ocean. The largest single ocean is the Pacific, which covers almost 170 million square kilometres.

8. Dolphins have the ability to make unique sounds that single them out from the rest of their group, or pod. They can also live to be as old as 50 and sleep with one eye open!

9. The stunning Manta Ray is the biggest member of the ray family and can grow to be 25ft across and weigh 3000kg.

10. Earth’s longest mountain range - the Mid-Ocean Ridge - stretches for more than 60,000km under the surface of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. The combined length of the Andes, Rockies and Himalayas is only a quarter as long as the distance covered by the Mid-Ocean Ridge!
